Civil War Battles

Preface

We chose these battles because of their signficance in the war: the first, the turning point, and the last. We also found them quite interesting. Before this project the only battle we knew really well was Fort Sumter, because of class discussion. When we heard Gettysburg, like most other people, we thought of the address, and really knew nothing of Palmito Ranch. But in researching this project we have learned a lot more.

The most interesting fact we discovered had to be that the last battle of the Civil War was actually won by the Confederates, at the Battle of Palmito Ranch. Another interesting fact is that this battle took place after a truce was declared between the North and the South. Also, all the strategy that went into the Battle of Gettysburg was very fascinating. We have gained a much better understanding of these pivotal points and the entire Civil War, and hope this understanding will be passed on to those who read this website.
